The DAV IS10 creates a deceptively large sound from it’s tiny speakers. These speakers really are tiny, in fact they are not much bigger than a golf ball measuring a tiny 4.3 x 5.6 x 3.9cm each. The heart of the Sony DAV IS10’s main unit is the 32 bit S-Master digital amplifier incorporating Sony’s unique sound processing technology. The S-Master in the DAVIS10 transmits audio to each of the speakers in a simple yet highly sophisticated digital process. There are a host of connection options available with the DAV-IS10. Looking at the back of the main unit and you will find HDMI, component and composite video outputs. There are also optical and coaxial digital audio inputs allowing you to connect other surround devices such as a Sky+ box or a separate surround sound DVD player.

The DAV-IS10 will upscale your DVDs to 720p or 1080i via the HDMI connector. This is great, giving your DVDs their very own HD style make over. The difference between viewing a DVD movie in standard definition and upscaled to high definition can be amazing. With the Sony DAVIS10 you will find yourself watching all of your old DVDs noticing details you had never seen before.

The Sony DAV-IS10 will play a wide range of disc media including DVD, DVD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD+R, CD and CD-RW discs. The Sony DAV-IS10 also reads JPEG, MP3 and DivX movie files directly from a disc.


Setting up and configuring the DAV IS10 is simple and easy. You simply connect the subwoofer to the main unit via a single cable. There are then 5 colour coded connectors on the bottom of the subwoofer for connecting the individual satellite speakers. Once you have connected and positioned the speakers you run the DAVIS10’s automatic calibration routine. Using an included microphone the Digital Cinema Auto Calibration will set all the appropriate levels and settings for all the speakers to suit your individual room requirements taking into account the size and shape of the room. This process takes just 30 seconds.

The Sony DAVIS10 also includes Sony’s BRAVIA Theatre Sync. This allows you to simply press play on the DAV IS10 remote and your BRAVIA compatible TV will also power itself on, change to the correct input and switch it’s sound to home cinema. This allows you to concentrate on watching the movie rather than juggling numerous remote controls.

Another neat feature the Sony DAV IS10 has to offer is the ability to connect your portable music player to it via the optional Sony Digital Media Port. You can stream music directly from a Bluetooth or WiFi enabled device to connect your music player via a cable.
